but clearly romney did, i think romney did a superior job of debating it. and so there are a lot of -- you know, we'll be seeing a lot of reviews over the next few days, but i think the key thing for us to watch is no question romney won the debate. the question is, how much does this change things. and i think in terms of national polls, no question, he's going to get a few points out of this. but the harder points and the more relevant points is, number one, you know, does he move ohio, and does he move these swing voters in these swing states because that's what's really relevant here. and i have no idea because, i mean, my view has come to be over the last few weeks that the -- you show me an undecided voter if a swing state like, say, ohio, and they've been bombard by ads since june -- bombarded by ads since june. and that the undecideds there were a lot smaller than nationally, you know, four or five points, something like that. and i had sort of concluded that, well, you know, if you're in ohio and you're still undecided, that you may never decide. romney got high boost from the first debate. two things to keep in mind. one, the polls show that the enthusiasm gap that romney has now is in his favor over obam obama. now this means that the democrats' base because they fear romney could be elected is enthusiastic. the swing voter polls in swing state they ask about taking position on this, after the debate, obama 43, romney 20. connects well with ordinary americans. obama 69. romney 7. so i think that rom lom has work to make up for himself but he did a good job. he did give himself another shot at this. the boosts like that, the boosts go away. >> dana: you pretty much the whole block so now we can kick it around the rest of the time. when you look at the number on the enthusiasm that bob mentioned, republicans are well more enthusiastic than democrats. if you are the obama campaign you get the numbers today. what goes through your mind about the $150 million you spent? >> kimberly: somebody better do something fast. this isn't going well for him. bob, you studied this historically for many, many year

>> governor romney, he's a good debater. i'm just okay. >> reporter: a new poll shows the president enjoys advantages going into this debate. 66% say his policies have favored the middle class, while 57% think romney's, instead, would favor the wealthy. but the campaign sees some liabilities, as well. the president can get peevish when challenged. >> you're likable enough, hillary. >> reporter: his debate prep team is studying bedates from the last 20 or so years, focusing on unforced, stylistic errors, such as al gores sighs. the president is also quite verbose. when i asked him a two-part question in august, his answer was -- >> on afghanistan. >> reporter: longer than 5 1/2 minutes. he's working to make answers crisper and more concise. obama aides say they see one of romney's key weaknesses, his reluctance to go into detail about his policies, for instance, he has not indicated what tax loopholes he would close to pay for his tax cuts. they hope he will be pressed for this. we go now to david muir traveling with the romn

is this debate more romney against himself? critics paint him displaying this flaccid leadership. >> he has to present himself as a president who would represent all americans. he said that several times. he's practicing that debate line. here again, even when he engages with that comment, it reminds people of that 47% remark. you see him over the last couple of days. i think it was today there is an interview in the "denver post" where he seems to be softening his stances around immigration. here is a candidate looking at a huge deficit in some of these swing states, deficits among hispanics, deficits among women. he's got to make ground up in this 90 minutes. it's not a long time. he has to please republicans who have been calling for him to get more specific in terms of his plans around tax reform and all sorts of other ideas he has. he has a real tall order going into this debate. >> governor romney is dogged about the 47% remark. i want to show the interview he did this week with a local affiliate. >> if you could go back
